ABOUT
Resurrected by a Ghost, Emmerich wasn't really given a choice.
The act didn't come without its consequences, or a price, as he found out in the Last City. He was more or less conscripted by the Vanguard as a Guardian. Knowing he would've been aimless and shell-shocked if left to his own devices, becoming a Guardian was a mercy, but even that was a double-edged sword, because as much as it allowed him to traverse across the solar system in wonder, it also led him to witness the horrors the universe had to offer.
But being a Guardian means there was never any time to rest and dwell over it. And Emmerich preferred to keep it that way.
PERSONALITY
- A soldier, down to his core.
- Accepts situations as they are, whatever the circumstances.
- Finishes what he starts, regardless of the personal price.
- Not one to sit idly by when there's something he can do to help.
- Not reckless but not careful either.
- Doesn't believe in feeling sorry for himself.
- Often gives the impression he doesn't care much for anything.
- Actually quite serious.
- Compassionate - but doesn't believe it helps anyone.
- Falls somewhere between being an introvert and an ambivert.
- Likely suffering from depression. Doesn't acknowledge it.
HISTORY
Like many other Guardians, Emmerich didn't remember his past. It all felt so familiar and clear in the beginning, like the assault rifle that felt at home in his hands, that he didn't fully question his lack of memories. It wasn't until he began to notice a keen absence that it started to bother him. He didn't know why he felt like someone was missing. The feeling persisted throughout all the missions the Vanguard sent him on, but Emmerich never dwelt on it for long, unease pushing him forward towards his future as a Guardian. In the end, his memory came back in stages. And Emmerich almost always wishes it hadn't, despite how selfish that is.
Everyone he ever knew and loved was long dead, a fact that will sit with him always.
That alone should have been enough to mess with his head, but it turned out getting resurrected was never meant to be a one time thing. No matter how many times he died to the Cabal, the Taken, or whatever happened to be his enemy that day, his Ghost would bring him back to life. Over and over. His first death was terrifying. Getting brought back to life never left him reassured, neither for himself or his fireteam. No matter how many times it happened, Emmerich couldn't get used to it. He used to think it was unnatural but immutable.
They would live forever.
Until Dominus Ghaul proved him wrong and inspired a different fear.
